Condition:  The stone is sound and in situ, but the centre has degraded, making the inscription virtually illegible.

The inscription is virtually impossible to read.  It seems the same was also true at the time of the 1986 survey.  However, the following transcription has been put together by viewing parish records, etc., and seems to be the most likely wording:

AND DAUGHTER OF JOHN AND ISABELLA LYALL/

WHO DIED IN 1847

ALSO JOSEPH LYALL SMITH/ 

SON OF THE ABOVE/

WHO DIED IN JUNE 1847/
