This window was erected by Robert Cornelius Empson and his wife, Elizabeth Cornwell Empson, as a memorial to Elizabeth's parents, Jarvis and Elizabeth Empson, who died in 1871.
In memory of his father-in-law, Robert restored (some reports say 'built') the Chancel of Hook Church. The official opening of the Chancel was marked with a Harvest Thanksgiving Festival on 14th October 1873. Tickets cost 1s.3d. in advance, or 1s.6d. on the day. The family of Jarvis and Elizabeth Empson lived in Goole Hall, which was built for them c.1820.
Their son, Jarvis Carrick, died on 3rd March 1855, aged 37 years. Elizabeth died on 22nd July 1867, aged 83 years. Jarvis died on 28th March 1871, aged 77.
The family are buried in Hook Churchyard.
