Mary Box, nee Drury, was born circa 1817 in Whitgift.
Mary was the widow of the late Captain George Box, who died in Goole c.1857.
George Box was born on 25th February 1814 in Hook. Around 1830, at the age of 16, George was admitted to Dreadnought Seamans Hospital with fever. His Master's certificate of service was granted on 23rd January 1851 (no 35.902 BT124/1 Image 124 row 7)
At the time of the 1851 census Mary was living in Vermuyden Terrace in the Port of Goole. Her occupation was given as Master Mariner's wife. Also in the household were children Ann (aged 8 years), George Drury (4), Mary (2) and Louisa (1 month), together with 14 year old servant, Emela Sails.
By the time of the1901 census Mary was living in Cecil Street, Goole. She was listed as the mother in law to Mary, age 52, and 15 year old grandson, James.
