For our final talk of the season, a group of members of HAS Research Group gave a presentation on the survey which we have been carrying out in the Churchyard at St Mary's Church, Hook. Thank you to Mary, Paul, Jane and Chris for sharing discoveries so far. The survey will continue this year and is accompanied by a website, describing each of the stones in detail. The website may be found here: http://google.com/view/hook-churchyard
Our second talk of 2026, held on 12th February 2026, was an excellent introduction to the excavations which were carried out on the site of Henry VIII's South Blockhouse in Hull. The talk was presented by Peter Connelly.
In July 2022, the largest community archaeology excavation took place over an 11-week programme to expose the monument’s remains, with community volunteers working alongside professional archaeologists from Humber Field Archaeology at every stage of the excavation. Information about the excavation may be found here: https://maritimehull.co.uk/projects/south-blockhouse .
The talk was followed by our A.G.M.
Our first talk of 2026 was held on Thursday, 15th January 2026, when we welcomed Dr Robert Richards, who gave us a very detailed presentation on the archaeology of All Saints Church, North Street, York.
Extensive restoration and conservation has been carried out at the church. Further details of this may be found at the excellent church website: https://allsaints-northstreet.org.uk/
