James Stapler was born in High Ongar, Essex in 1842. He was the son of James and Eliza Stapler. James married Amelia Turner (1841-1930) in Gravesend in 1866.
At the time of the 1901 census, James was living with his wife in Village Street, Hook. James was working as a gardener and his wife was a teacher of music.
In 1911, James's occupation was listed as grocer. The couple were still living in Hook.
At the time of his death on 12th September 1913, James and Amelia were living at 5 Hadden Terrace, Hook. James Stapler was buried in Hook in September 1913. Effects of £878 were left to James's widow, Amelia.
Amelia Stapler was buried in Hook with her husband in November 1930.
