According to the Howdenshire Gazette of Friday, 5th November 1886, at the time of his death Richard Duckels (Junior) was the oldest resident of Hook:
DEATH OF MR. RICHARD DUCKELS. - The village of Hook has this week lost its oldest resident by the death of Mr Richard Duckels, at the advanced age of 82. Mr Duckels lived in the village the whole of his life, being educated at Howden, and during his long career filled many parish offices, including that of surveyor of the highway. It will be remembered that he was one of the witnesses called to give evidence in reference to Pasture-road and marshfield Terrace. His lifetime has witnessed the birth and growth of the Port of Goole. He was the owner of the gardens in Shuffleton, fronting Hook-road, and it is thought that this may now come into the market as building land.
The following advertisement, which appeared in the Howdenshire Gazette on Friday, 17th December 1886, confirms that, like his father, #Richard Duckels (Senior), Richard (Junior) was also a man of property.
BUILDING LAND, HOOK ROAD, GOOLE.
