James Lees was born about 1831, in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, son of James (c.1836-1970) and Sarah Lees.
James (Junior) married Emma Wilkinson on 27th June 1852, in Doncaster, Yorkshire.
The couple moved to Hook around 1880 and lived there for about 30 years. It seems from the gravestone of his father, James, in St Mary's churchyard, that his parents may also have moved to Hook at some time.
James served as Clerk and Sexton of St Mary's until his death in 1912, at the age of 81. It seems that he dedicated this window to his late wife, following her death in 1907.
James, the son of James and Emma, served as organist of St Mary's for over thirty years. He died on 7th October 1923, aged 65 years.
