The following article appeared in the Manchester Evening News on Saturday, 7th June 1884:
"SUICIDE OF A FARMER. - Yesterday Mr George Henry Duckels, farmer, Old Goole, a tenant of Mr. Sothern Estcourt, M.P., hung himself in an outbuilding on his father's farm. The deceased was quite dead when found, having been hanging for some time. He had only recently entered upon the farm, and it is supposed difficulties he experienced in coming to terms respecting fixtures, &c., affected his spirits. The deceased was a sergeant in the local volunteers."
According to the Howdenshire Gazette of Friday, 27th June 1884, the undertaker at George's funeral was Mr Wm. Hutchinson of Old Goole.
An advertisement appeared in the Howdenshire Gazette on Friday, 20th March 1885, offering for sale items belonging to the late Mr G.H. Duckels: 7 horses, 4 fat bullocks, farm carriages and implements, gearing and small tools.
Sadly, George's father Thomas Duckels (#195: 1809-1891) died a few years later, on 3rd July 1891.
