George Drury Box was born in 1847, the son of George and Mary Box.
At the time of the 1861 census George was working as a farm servant in Howden. By 1881 he was living in Airmyn and working as an agricultural labourer. He was married by this time to Sarah Maria (nee Stamp) and the couple had a son, George, aged 6, and daughters, Maria (4) and Kate (2).
George, son of George Drury and Sarah Maria, was living in Carlton in 1891, working as a farm servant. However, by 1901 he was living in Methley, Yorkshire and working as a horseman at Methley Colliery. He had married Mary Ann (nee Thornton) in 1898 and the couple had a daughter, Phoebe.
