Alice SMITH
(1824-1847)
(1824-1847)
Alice Lyall married Jonathan Smith at the Independent Chapel in Goole on 25th August 1846. Jonathan's occupation was tea dealer. Alice was the eldest daughter of John Lyall, Esq., her Majesty's Tide Surveyor.
Their son, Joseph Lyall Smith was born in the latter part of May 1847, but sadly died one week later.
From an advertisement which appeared in the Leeds Intelligencer on Saturday, 18th September 1847 we discover that Jonathan Smith, of Goole, Grocer and Tea Dealer, has now gone out of business due to bankruptcy.
Estimated Year of Birth: 1823
Date of Death: 3rd Quarter of 1847 (As a result of childbirth, maybe?)

Grave No: 23
Latitude: 53.72052

The inscription is virtually impossible to read. It seems the same was also true at the time of the 1986 survey. However, the following transcription has been put together by viewing parish records, etc., and seems to be the most likely wording:

WHO DIED IN 1847
ALSO JOSEPH LYALL SMITH/
SON OF THE ABOVE/
WHO DIED IN JUNE 1847/
